Holiday 2000

This year we took our holiday a few weeks early, which means we missed most of the friends that we usually see.  With Ted and Andreas's new venture with West Wind Sports, they had to be at Nitinat during the 'Wired' event, and we had be in Red Deer for Liam and Kathy's annual reunion - so the schedule was set. Check out how Andreas (Open Event), and I (Amature Event) did at Wired.

Ted spent the last few weeks before we left upgrading the trailer (heavier axle and bigger tires) and the truck (helper springs) to prepare for the long trip and logging roads.

We drove through to Clearwater the first day.  We stayed at a local campground with a pool & the kids spent about 3 hours in the pool.  The next morning,  Spencer had fun playing with the two frogs that we found in the campground washrooms and then we toured the Greystone falls.  The Tourist Info Center said 30k off the highway, but it was more like 60 - and all up hill.  Pretty cool once we got there, though.  Almost lost Laura!

The next day we made it to White Rock.  Scott and Caroline had invited us to spend the night in their driveway with our camper.  We were hoping to see them at Nitinat, but the timing and summer campouts didn't work.  They have a magnificent place in White Rock with a yard, garden, and house straight out of a magazine.  We had a great visit, and a magnificent meal, complete with Scott's home made wine.  They had better be careful, or this will be a regular stop for us.  Laura really missed the girls at Nitinat.  Hopefully we can get our timing better next year.

As always, once we got to Nitinat, we met wonderful new friends.  We had a great couple of weeks, sailing 13 out of 16 days; and we could have sailed two of the other three if we had wanted to do it in the rain.  The weather was great, except for the 2 1/2 days when we had 600mm of rain.  A bear in the campground, collecting bottle caps, and late night campfires -- all were a part of our holiday.  The following photo's tell some of the story.

Always Hard to Leave!

It's always hard to leave, but we had to make it for the annual "Airshow" party in Red Deer at Liam and Kathy's.  Thanks Kathy for the great weekend! - sorry - no pictures this year.

After we got home, we still had a few weeks of summer left (one advantage of leaving early).

We had great weather.  Not much wind surfing, but Lou & the kids took full advantage of the lake.

Stopped to let the truck cool down and found these falls.
