Spencer
Ted and I have fun working on Spencer's page - as he doesn't seem interested in doing his own. Spencer had another very busy year... starting with club volleyball from January to April. I think the highlight of his club volleyball season might have been our trip to Grande Prairie - where they played in a tournament and we stayed with some good friends of ours Bernd and Angela. Spencer and his friend Josh really hit it off with their family, and have been "texting" ever since.

In March Spencer got his first part-time job at a local grocery store... stocking shelves. Also, big news for Spencer - he got his driver's licence! After a runaround with the driving school, he was finally able to take his driving test, and recieved a perfect score on the driving portion.

Spencer was still involved in the Concert Band and Jazz Band last spring at the high school, as well as his favorite group... Big Drum. In May Spencer was fortunate to travel to Jasper with the school bands. In addition to several performances, they also had time to hike Meline Canyon, and explore the townsite. Dad went along as a chaperone, but was to keep his distance. The kids all seemed to have a lot of fun.
Spencer found time to do some snowmobiling and snowboarding last winter. He spent many hours with his friend Cody, exploring around the lake on the machines.

He finished grade 10 in June with an Honours standing and began a very busy summer. Spencer spent the first couple of weeks working as a labourer for a friend's father. They had some scorching hot days. I know I couldn't have done it.

In July Spencer spent a week at the lake at his cousin Devon's - something he ALWAYS enjoys. I think he was working on doing a "Tantrum" (some kind of wakeboard invert (flip) move that sounds waaaay too dangerous).

Also in July, Spencer purchased (with some help) a Nissan king-cab truck. It is an older truck and needed some work, but seems to be in good shape and runs well. It has given him freedom that Ted and I are still trying to come to terms with...

In August he headed to the Gorge with us for some windsurfing, white-water rafting, rollercoasters, and waterfalls. I think the highlight was the After Shock rollercoaster at Silverwood. 177' in the air, hanging by your straps looking straight down, when it releases... yikes. Both he and Ted loved it!!!

Back to school in September. His favorite class by far is Building Construction. He is doing fine in the other courses, although he is having difficulty understanding why the homework has to be done.... ("I don't need to do it, I know it... and it doesn't count for much anyways.")

He is taking a FACT class this year (Fitness and Circuit Training). He has to be at the school at 7:00am, three days per week, so they can run, bike or swim for an hour before class. It is a great exercise program. Who would have thought that he could get up in the morning?? He seems to be enjoying it.

Spencer played on the Senior Volleyball team this fall. They won zones, and made it to the provincial tournament. (Lots of photos here). He is trying out for Club volleyball again this fall. We have a new athletics director at the university who has many years of national volleyball experience as a coach. He is trying to upgrade the Camrose programs. Everyone is hoping for improvements to the programs.

Spencer is in the Concert band at school again this year as a drummer, but is not playing sax or playing in the jazz band. He is looking forward to lots of snowboarding again this winter, but is a little frustrated with our lack of snow to date.

Spencer wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and happy new year!
