Ted

I have been very busy at work as usual.  Camrose is growing, so there is lots of work on all fronts.  Seems the only people who don't realize how well everything is going are our City Council.  Strange how that is.  This term, there have been lots of in-fighting among the Councilors, which makes things difficult for us staff - but things seem to move along in spite of everything.  My staff is like another big family.  We have had a couple of marriages, new- borns,  retirements, additions (new employees), and some who have moved on to better positions.  All in all - a pretty good year. I'm still a windsurfing addict, and have started trying to learn a new sport called Kiteboarding.  Imagine riding an oversized wakeboard, attached to a very large kite (12m2) on 40m strings.  You have to fly the kite (much like a stunt kite), while sailing the board and watching where you are going.

It can be very scary when things go wrong, but I think I'm slowly getting the knack of it - and I think it will be fun.  Here are some links to some photo's.

Andreas (my windsurfing partner) and I went down to the Force 10 Windsurfing Club at Keho Lake by Lethbridge again this summer to take part in the Canadian Speed Trials. A great group of sailors down their, who love to party. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. We did do some sailing, (and partying), but the wind was from the wrong direction so there wasn't any speed trial competition.

We also did our annual trip down to Hood River, Oregon. Andreas is in the process of taking over a local (Edmonton) Windsurf/Kiteboard/Snowboard shop - Potters, so we got to go and smooze with all the suppliers. I was like a kid in a candy store with all the new gear and gadgets, and we were offered 25% off wholesale - so we could demo the stuff and show it off to our local sailors. Unfortunately even 25% off wholesale adds up!! We had good weather, and sailed most days! We were out one day with Bruce Peterson (Who owns Sailworks Sails), and Dale Cook, (a "Team Rider" and Pro for Sailworks). It was fun watching. Dale was doing loops all over the place - wow!

I'm not sure if our volleyball team is stronger this year, or if the league is weaker, but we are hovering between the bottom of division 2 and the top of division 3, which is better than ever before.  Our team is still the second oldest in the league, and most of the teams we play are half our age or less.   During the weeks between volleyball seasons, I've also been playing Walleyball with some old friends from my Badminton days.  (Colin, Bob, Paul, and Wilf) I'm not sure which is more fun.  The Volleyball is more technical in that we execute plays, and everyone has specific duties and positions, but the Walleyball (which is played in a racquetball court) is a lot more exercise (because there are fewer players), and is just for fun, so no one gets mad or excited if the team isn't doing well.  Both are lots of fun, but I can only get away with one evening a week away from the family. - and even that is a stretch at times.

Skating at Home Spence & Pepere Fishing

The Family decided to get a membership at Rabbit Hill Ski Area this winter.  We have already been five times this year, and are trying to go every weekend.  Spencer and I are learning to Snowboard.  We took a lesson the first day, and things went fairly well, although I was sore for weeks afterwards.  (My tailbone is about 2 inches shorter than it used to be.)  Now that we are seasoned BOARDERS, (4 times), we are not falling nearly as much, and somehow we are falling "Smarter" so it doesn't hurt as much!  (BIG "TOUCH WOOD" HERE).  I don't know if I'm a convert yet, but it definitely is fun!!!  I'm looking forward to trying it out in the Mountains. No pictures yet - we look too much like beginners!
