Laura

2019 started with snow and Frances' final project, Daddy Long Legs. Frances produced and acted in the two and a half hour long musical. I stage managed and helped with marketing. It was a beautiful production, Frances was wonderful, and I'm so glad I could be a part of it. Thanks again to everyone who was able to donate and/or come out to see it!

In mid-January I was hired as the Interim Recruitment Officer & Education Assistant for Rosebud School of the Arts. It was a fun job and I learned a lot, but they hired me knowing that I intended to leave Rosebud (and the job) at the end of May because…

At the end of February I started rehearsals for Bright Star with Rosebud Theatre. Hair was a pain - for all of the women in the cast (ah.. period shows), but otherwise, what a great way to spend 3 months!
And then Frances and I moved to Calgary! We found our apartment in April and got the keys on May 1, which meant we had a month to slowly move in. Good thing too, cause we weren't just moving from Rosebud. Frances and I both had a lot of things stored at our parents' in Radway and Camrose, respectively. I'm very grateful we were able to move things (like furniture) into our new apartment as people were available to drive them to us.

Frances soon found a job with Springboard Performance as their Cultural Programming Production Assistant and not too much later, I found a job with Icebreaker. We were both busy and had quite irregular schedules, but we still found time to explore Calgary, our new neighbourhood, and Banff! Even made it home for a lake day too.

At the end of September we celebrated Frances' graduation from Rosebud School of the Arts!

And then we got engaged!

It was a busy couple of days.

October was very full for both of us. Springboard Performance's largest annual event is Fluid Fest: "Featuring extraordinary local, national and international artists, Fluid Fest ignites the city with performances, workshops, artist talks, and happenings to inspire and connect."

For two weeks Frances was at production meetings every day and performances every evening. She had also found a part-time job at a coffee shop downtown. And, during the second week of Fluid Fest, she began rehearsals as the stage manager for Matilda with Storybook Theatre.

I started my new job as the Festival & Registration Coordinator with the Calgary Performing Arts Festival.

I also got the flu.

We spent most of November recovering from October.

Well, I spent November recovering and settling in to my new job. Frances spent November stage managing rehearsals for a two hour musical with 32 actors (20 of whom are children). They opened on Nov 22 and run till Jan 4. Not a relaxing process, but it's a really fun show!

And now here we are: getting ready to host three separate mini-Christmases, planning a wedding, and looking forward to the New Year.

Happy Holidays!
