Laura

Hello! How are you? Good? Good.

Alright, lets do this.

As you may recall, at the the end of last year I was finishing up a show in Rosebud (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe), so after Christmas I had to go back to Rosebud, pack up my stuff and move to Calgary.

I spent four months in Calgary.  Most of my time was occupied by Indigo, where I found a job in the kids department (it was super fun and I was awesome at it).

I also spent a lot of time putting together a performance piece with my friend and fellow actor, Lara Schmitz, for the Urban Curvz Theatre annual festival: Girls Gone Wilde!

Its hard to describe what we created (half movement/half spoken word), but I was quite proud of it, and the festival in general was really interesting.

I highly recommend checking it out if youre in the Calgary area next year.

In April things shifted again.  Mid-month, my friend Bill and I drove to Vancouver for a few days to do some auditions.  It was a fun trip.  We met some lovely theatre people but what I loved most was getting to catch up with old friends!

When we got back I started a vlog and then (not entirely unrelated) moved to Rosebud.  Id been thinking about starting a vlog ever since my voice coach at Rosebud had me do video journals for class and I finally decided to just do it.

For those of you who dont know, a vlog is a video blog.  There are lots of different types of vlogs but Ive chosen a pretty basic format.

I make two short videos a week and its just me talking about my life.  I started at the end of April so that I could also talk about theatre and acting because thats when I started rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz.

I played the Wicked Witch of the West and it was awesome.  I made at least three children cry - which, it turns out, is more distracting than funny when it actually happens.

I had a really great summer.  The cast was a joy to be around and between my witching and trumpetting, I wasnt bored for a second.  And on my weekends, I got to go home and hang out at the lake.

As the summer was winding down, I realized that for the first time ever I didnt have anything lined up for the future.  Like, at all.  And since Ive always wanted to travel and live somewhere else for a while, I applied for a 2-year visa to the United Kingdom.

So thats where I am now.  Ive been here for a month, but if feels like Im just starting to get settled.  Ive found somewhere to live (in London) and a job (at North Face) so Ive been pretty busy.  In the new year I hope to travel around the country and hop over to Europe a couple times - and Id like to do some acting too.
