Laura

Hello!

Let's begin, shall we?

In January I flew to Philadelphia to visit my friend Cathy. Except there are no direct flights from Alberta to Philly at that time of year - so I was flying Edmonton-Calgary-Toronto-Philly and I made it to Toronto, before I was stopped due to a storm, had to stay overnight and then fly Toronto-Pittsburgh-Philadelphia the next day. All told, between getting dropped off in Edmonton and picked up in Philly was 42 hours. But the visit was awesome; included cats, books, a LOTR marathon, and was totally worth it!
Later that month I was back in Rosebud to film a movie called The Red Herring. It was my first time playing a lead on camera and we had a ton of fun making it! If you'd like to see it, e-mail slantingproductions@gmail.com - it's $15 for a digital copy and they accept e-transfers.

I spent the next couple months in Calgary, visiting with friends I hadn't seen since getting back from the UK. I didn't audition for much because my plan was to get another visa and move to Australia in the fall.

Laura & Sarah in Jasper

February was an exciting month for me. I went to Jasper with my friend Sarah; so glad we could pick up our annual trip again! And then I attended a Pride & Prejudice Ball at the Hotel MacDonald. Everyone dressed up in period costumes and I'd been to two dance rehearsals so I'd know the dances and it was so much fun!

In March I had my first eye exam in 5 years and learned that it doesn't have to be that difficult to read street signs.

In mid-April I spent a week in Vancouver. I went to an Amanda Palmer concert that included a fascinating variety of guest artists! Made a couple friends at the concert and got to visit with some old friends during the week too! And at the end of April I moved back to Rosebud to start rehearsals for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

In May I went to Stars on Ice with my mom (for Mother's Day). We had an incredible time! It was a wonderful show and it still makes me smile just thinking about it. Also, turns out, Mom and I "Wohooooo!" at the same pitch.

And then in June, we opened Joseph and the next three months looked pretty much the same for me: six or seven shows a week, with a lake visit on weekends. Not a bad way to spend the summer. Also, in order to get a friend to read Harry Potter - I've been cooking? Long story. I think it's been rather frustrating on both our parts, but the videos have been hilarious!

After the show closed on September 1, I decided to spend the rest of the month in Rosebud. The theatre was holding auditions each weekend for the 2019 season, and I wanted to be available.

At some point in September it became apparent that I wasn't going to be able to go to Australia after all. I had been diagnosed with Graves Disease (a thyroid thing) and, while it's manageable, I have to go for blood work every few weeks and I decided to stay in the country until my medication is more stable.

On October 6, my mom's friend, Lorie Kuchera, passed away. I'm so thankful to have had her in my life and I'm glad I was home and not in Australia.

This year, I spent Thanksgiving with my girlfriend, Frances, and her family in Radway. If you've never been, it is a hamlet. There's a grain elevator.

I decided to stay in Rosebud for November and December. I had work at the Merc; serving and playing dinner music. And then I was offered a role in the Rosebud Theatre spring show, Bright Star, so now it looks like I'll be staying in Rosebud till the end of May 2019.

I can't remember the last time I had plans that extended that far into the future.

Hope you had a great year!

Merry Christmas!
