Spencer

I asked Spencer, now that he is 26, if he could write his own text for his webpage. He told me that he wouldn't want to break tradition, and that he would be happy if I would do it.

I guess the advantage is that I can say whatever I want about him, but the disadvantage is that since he doesn't live at home anymore, I only know a little bit of what he did this year. Maybe that is a good thing!

Spencer started a new job early in the new year, in Lloydminster. It is similar to what he was doing last year, and with the same company, Rife Resources. He is inspecting and operating well sites. He says he enjoys the work, and he also enjoys the shift - which is 8 days on and 6 days off. That means that every other weekend, he can take off on another adventure - whether it be on his motorbike, skidooing in the mountains, or snowboarding with friends. It is quite the lifestyle.

Spencer still has his house in Camrose, and commutes back to Camrose on his days off. It is his home base, where he keeps his Motorcycle and Skidoo. His shift work does put a kink in his team sports, expecially now that he is working in Lloydminster. He still plays with his local Volleyball Team during the winter and Ball Team in the summer, but he can only play when the games line up with his days off - which is not often. Still, he enjoys the team play and the groups of friends.

Spencer has been learning how to play the guitar, and enjoys going out with his friends to open-mike night or kareoke night. I am not sure where he gets his talent from - certainly not from me.

Spencer Skidooing

Biking in Oregon

Early in the year, Spencer made several trips to the mountains to skidoo with friends. He has taken all the avalanche training, and has all the gear - including the locators and poles which he carries with him. Louise and I worry, but he says he has it under control!

In June Spencer did a 5,000km, 8-day motorbike trip, through Idaho, Washington, Oregon and down to California and back. He stopped in Hood River, Oregon, to visit me while I was there, and spent a day windsurfing - then stopped for another day in California to do some surfing. It must be nice to be young. There is no way I could have put that many miles on a bike in only 6 riding days!

He did a few more motorbike trips over the year, but usually only a few thousand Km each. One trip was to BC with his roommate Dylan. They stopped at Dylan's folks' place in Sicamous - then attended a party on the lake, with "Trooper" playing live from a House Boat... in the middle of the lake!

Spencer attended the Craven Country Thunder Music Festival in Craven Saskatchewan in July with a friend, and then the Big Valley Jamboree in August with his cousins Fallon and Devon, along with a bunch of friends who meet there every year. BVJ is always a highlight of the summer for Spencer.

During the Spring and Summer, we also had many good days out on the boat with Spencer and his friends, including one day with Louise's brother Charles and his partner Claire.

Mexico

In December, Spencer attended a friend's wedding in Mexico. They had a huge group and it sounds like they had a lot of fun, including some cave diving and tours of some ruins.

We had Christmas early this year, because Spencer will be working over Christmas, and then on his next set of days off will be skidooing with friends in Revelstoke over New Year's. Quite a year!

Spencer wishes you all a Very Merry Christmas!
