Friends Shows Snorkeling

Some photos of Friends and Family

Louise and I have gone to Las Brisas, Huatulco for 7 years, and are heading there again right after New Year's.

We have become friends with many people at the resort, and enjoy the activities and the shady areas under the trees. We also have friends, Wilf from Edmonton and Bob from Innisfail, who join us every year; although Bob is too busy coaching Badminton to make the trip this year. (These 2 fellows have been going to Las Brisas for many more years than we have... they introduced us to the resort.)

Description

Ted, Louise, Wilf, Bob, and Daniel - at Secrets Resort

It is not a resort that everyone likes. It is spread out, and there are many stairs that you usually need to take to walk up to your room. 200 steps is not out of the question - but there is always the shuttle if you have sore feet.

We, however, enjoy that it is spread out. There are large grass areas shaded with trees where we can sit and read, and four different beaches which we can use - as well as more activities and services than we can use (Tennis, Fitness Gym, Squash Courts, Table Tennis, and many more).

Our days in Las Brisas are generally much the same. Get up late, have a nice breakfast in the open air "Mexican Restaurant", go snorkeling, Stand Up Paddle around the bay, read for a while, have lunch, play some frisbee, read for a while, meet the guys for volleyball (Louise continues to read), have a swim to cool down, clean up, and go down for supper, dance and/or play cards, go to bed.

Occasionally we will break up the routine by going for a sail, going into town for supper, or to another resort for a show (to watch our friend Rachelle) or take a local snorkeling or waterfall tour, but these are the exceptions.

Darcy, Micky, Louise and Patty - riding the Banana (I'm on the back).

This year, for the first time, my sisters Micky and Patty, along with their husbands Darcy and Ross, joined us. Micky and Darcy for one week, and Patty and Ross for two. They must have enjoyed it, because they are both booked for two weeks in 2018.

Here is a link to the photos I took of the resort, our friends and family - My Flickr Site.

Showtime!
The resort has an entertainment group, and in addition to running all the daily activities, they also put on very professional shows. The shows are lively and full of music and dance.

Some focus on the cultural heritage with music and costumes from Mexico, while there are also comedy shows and musical themes like "Music from the 50's to 90's. Knowing most of the performers really adds to the fun.

They perform three or four shows a week, so there is some repetition when you are there for three weeks, but that just makes it more fun as our friends want to know what we thought of each show, and you get to notice slight differences and funny things that happen during the perfomances.

Polynesian Show

For the last few years, I have taken photos of the performances, which I then share with the staff. They seem to really appreciate it.

Here are the shows from last year, including one from the Secret's Resort, where one of our friends who used to work at Brisas is now working as a dancer. Here are a couple of our favorite photos, but you can also click on the following links to see my best photos of each of the shows.

Some photos we took snorkeling at Brisas
One of our favorite ativities at the resort is snorkelling. There is a small reef right at the resort - and while it is not the Great Barrier Reef, every time we go out we seem to see different fish or sea animals.

While we haven't yet seen the octopus that is sometimes spotted, we have seen several different types of Moray Eels and Stingrays (Louise always heads for the far shore when we see one), blue coral, erchins, sea anemony, star fish, as well as many different species of fish.

Here are some of my favorites, and you can see more here on my Flickr site.
