In March, Hans and Sue invited us to their home in Canmore. Louise and Sue enjoyed the Spa in the Banff Springs Hotel, while Hans and I went skiing at Sunshine.

Great day at Sunshine!

My consulting work took me to Tawatina Valley, which is the ski resort that the Gillespie familly grew up on. I remember many weekends driving the old 61 station wagon North through St. Albert to Tawatina where we often endured long line ups, for the 20 or 30 second run down the hill.

The ski hill hasn't changed much in the last 45 years, although there is a new lodge and a network of cross county ski trails. While embroiled in controvery over the last few years, the ski hill, now re-named Pine Valley Snow Resort is still going strong - although maybe not as busy as in the early 1970s.

Touring the site sure brought back a lot of memories for me.

In June, our Rotary Exchange Student from Denmark, Mikkel came out for an evening.

Spencer taught Mikkel how to Wakesurf. He caught on fairly quickly. It looks like he was having fun!

In July, our friend (and my boss at Sage Analytics), Shari-Anne came out for a BBQ with her son Dakota, and daughter Sharise.

We had a nice evening in the boat. Both of the kids were wakeboarders, but neither had tried wakesurfing before, so of course we did some of both.

At the end of July, the St. Albert Model Aircraft Society honoured Dad/Grandpa with an award. Lifetime honorary membership, and named a trophy after him, which will be given out annually at future club flying events.

It took some organization to talk Grandpa into going, but Brian persevered and got him to go. Grandma, and Brian were also there to watch the presentation!

I want to give special thanks to all the RC guy's, and to Warren, also and RC Flyerr and friend who was the primary instigator of the award.

The award was even featured in December 2017 issue of Model Aviation Canada Magazine.

The magazine got it a bit wrong. Dad's airplanes were all in his garage - the two in front are not his.....

In August, I took Dad to the flying field. It was a beautiful day, and although Dad didn't fly, I think he had fun talking with fellow RC Flyer, Warren, who was also there. Dad asked me to take a photo of himself with his Funcub, and also his Flying hat.

Also in August, Louise's Tante Mimi turned 90. To celebrate, the basement of the Church in St. Albert was booked, many of her friends and relatives attended, including Louise and I.

Highlights were the cake and blowing out the candles, a special song performed by Tante Jeannette and Janine, and the speech given by Aunty Mimi.

Of course it was also fun visiting with all the relatives and friends that attended. Aunti Mimi is still going strong!
